Very thought-provoking with a reasonable premise

I'm not a big UFO-ologist. Both sides of the argument for and against visitors from other planets have good points (see Sagan for and Fermi against.)
The underlying premise of this book is that there are patterns in the human reports of contacts with creatures from UFOs and that looking at the similarities in those patterns can add to the debate.
I suspect the movie "Men in Black" could have been taken from this book, as a fictional elaboration. If one accepts that older planets have civilizations that have mastered interstellar travel, then there could well be some "interstellar eco-tourist network" and even interstellar politics. The latter is hinted at in a couple of the reports in the book.
Even if you remain skeptical, then it is still a fun read with lots of graphic representations.

At least it doesn't "grey-wash" the face of aliens though.

Not really what I was hoping for. Some nice stories and some interesting images, but from a "field-guide" I was expecting a lot more. Still an okay read, especially at used book prices. Mentions the strange tendency to project one alien design onto every story whether it matches up or not that American media has.

What a great book. When I was younger, I read this and it scared the pants off of me. Now, reading it again, I find it hilarious! From a pseudo scientific introduction to in depth descriptions of every kind of alien you could imagine, and bizarre stories and illustrations to go with them, this is everything you could want from an alien book and more
